Internship Period: July 2nd, 2012 - September 28th, 2012 (Flexible end date)

Position: Unpaid Internship

Goal: To learn & apply skills relating to arts administration


This upcoming summer, Push Dance Company will begin The Shipyard Project: Something Leftover from the Last, in partnership with 3rd St Youth Center & Clinic. TSummer Internships at Push Dance Company


he project will be a 20-minute dance that links health risks to youth between 12-21 and BVHP Navy Shipyard cleanup, and we hope to welcome enthusiastic, creative interns to the team to help the project succeed. Seamlessly integrating multimedia with cutting-edge choreography, artistic director Raissa Simpson’s pieces do not reside merely on stage—they are also site-specific installations in public spaces like museums and city centers. Her work is sweeping, vibrant, multi-layered, and socially relevant often involving multiple aspects such as video projection, live music, and aerial dance.


In exchange, interns will develop valuable skills in arts administration, social justice initiatives, environmental justice, and learn creative ideas.


We are accepting applications for three (3) unpaid internship positions: Marketing, Production & Social Media.


Desired Qualifications:


Required

  1. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

  2. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style

  3. Strong ability to work independently

  4. Proficient in excel, word and outlook

  5. Demonstrated experience working effectively in partnership with people of diverse cultural backgrounds

  6. Curiosity and interest in performance, environmental justice, and social justice


Preferred

  1. Experience with new media and social networking (familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Vimeo desirable)

  2. Experience with web content management (Basic HTML and CSS a plus)

  3. Graphic design experience (familiarity with Photoshop)

  4. Experience with donor cultivation and event planning


Responsibilities: Please choose one of the following responsibilities. All roles specified below include general office duties.


Marketing Intern ( 5-10hrs)

  1. Assist with promotion of Push programming and distribute press releases, assembling and sending press kits and marketing collateral

  2. Help with maintaining list of local contacts and organizations to promote specific programming

  3. Archive press clippings and marketing collateral

  4. Maintain image library and assist with text/image gathering before submission to designer

  5. Assist with website updates


Production Intern (5-10hrs)

  1. Organize and manage logistics for production activities including youth and Company performances

  2. Work with volunteers and production staff during performances and special events

  3. Work with Administrative Director on special projects like bookings, touring and archiving older company records


Social Media Intern (5-10hrs)

  1. Assist with maintaining Push’s social marketing presence (ie. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)

  2. Conduct research into connecting our dance community, press, and community outlets

  3. Learn Push’s social marketing techniques and monitoring of Users

  4. Project managing/editing marketing and solicitation pieces for Development purposes

Compensation:

  1. College credit, if applicable

  2. Flexible schedule
